Laayoune, Western Sahara

Laayoune lies amid the low rolling sands of the Western Sahara just eight miles from the Atlantic coast. It was claimed by the Spanish in 1928 who developed it into the capital of Western Sahara before it was annexed by Morocco in 1976. Now the largest city in Western Sahara, it's name simply translates as 'the city'.

Enjoy the relaxed pace of life while admiring the distinctive Moroccan architecture, seeing exotic birds at the city's bird park or looking for souvenirs in one of the handicraft shops.
