Abidjan, Ivory Coast

The Ivory Coast became one of West Africa's most prosperous countries for several decades after obtaining independence in 1960. The former capital, Abidjan, is spread across several islands split by the palm-tree lined Ebrié lagoon.

Its French heritage is evident in the pavement cafes and wide avenues. Perhaps tour the city on an included excursion.
